Each individual produces four pounds of waste per day. One quarter of that amount is food and paper waste.
Food and paper are the two largest components in landfills, accounting for nearly 50% of municipal solid waste.
There is more food and paper in landfills than diapers, styrofoam, and tires combined. Food waste is the number one least recycled material.
Landfills are layered deep, saturated with water. No oxygen can penetrate. Landfills and all their biodegradable waste will remain embalmed for centuries to come.
Landfills produce methane, a harmful greenhouse gas, and leach toxic chemicals into our air and drinking water.
Landfill space is now severely limited. Consequences of this limited space include trash barges with no place to dock, ocean dumping, and trash exported to poorer countries. Landfill costs are skyrocketing, which means higher fees and taxes for everyone.
An environmental innovator, NatureMill's home composting appliance recycles food and paper waste into rich, organic compost fertilizer. The computer-controlled machine is fully automatic and odor free, and can be used right in the kitchen where waste is generated.
NatureMill brings composting to the home user. A computer controls the temperature, air flow, moisture, and mixing to accelerate the process and eliminate the backbreaking work. No special plumbing or electrical connections are needed, other than a standard electrical outlet. There is no need to handle and transport the rotting material.
Best of all, NatureMill provides home gardeners with a source of rich, organic fertilizer.
NatureMill is a home composter, developed by San Francisco entrepreneur and inventor, Russ Cohn.
NatureMill recycles its weight in waste every 10 days, diverting over two tons of waste from landfills over its life.
By using the NatureMill, consumers can help reduce emissions of methane, a harmful greenhouse gas produced when organic matter decomposes in oxygen-starved landfills.
Compost returns nutrients to the environment, reducing our need for chemical fertilizers.
